There Is Only One Thing You Need To Succeed As An Entrepreneur

If you head out into the streets of any city and ask “What is the one thing that you need to succeed as an entrepreneur”, the answers you get would range from honest to hilarious. One of the first people would spit off the word “money” right away, and then proceed to ask you for a couple of dollars.

In fact, a large amount of the people that you ask this question to will answer with the word money. There is some preconceived notion that with the word entrepreneur comes millions of dollars. This is no doubt due to the fact that the entrepreneurs that we actually hear about are the success stories. We rarely hear about the stories of people working hard in the trenches, penniless to make their business work.

Money is not the answer.

Some other people would say that you need an idea. That might be right in some aspects, but anyone with an idea isn’t meant to be an entrepreneur.

Others will joke and say “A successful husband” or “successful wife” and give a giggle.

Some people will think it’s a trick question and spend minutes trying to find the punch line. Good luck.

You’ll get dozens, if not more answers to this question and you’d be lucky to find one person to answer this right. Some answers will really make you think, but each and every thought provoking answer boils down to the one solid gold answer to this million dollar question.

What is the one thing that you need to be a successful entrepreneur?

The one thing that you need to succeed as an entrepreneur is love.

It sounds romanticized. But it’s the absolute truth. Usually, you don’t wake up one day and decide to own your own business. It is the product of a lot of consideration. It’s a road, and if you are an entrepreneur you know this, it’s a road filled with setbacks, disappointments, and lessons learned dressed as failures. It would be easy for anyone to give up when it seems that all is lost.

There’s one thing that keeps you going, and that is love.

Whether you love your family so much and you want to succeed for them. Maybe you love your product or service so much that you cannot imagine not giving it to your clients each day. Maybe it’s the love of the grind and the feeling of working hard and accomplishing. Or the drive to make a dent in your world. Whatever it may be, it all leads back to love.

No matter the reason, it’s based on love.

If you don’t love the ups, downs, inconsistencies, adventures, successes, defeats, lessons learned, struggles, mistakes, triumphs, failures, accomplishments, joys, and struggles that come with being an entrepreneur, then being an entrepreneur isn’t for you.

If you love the excitement, the let downs, the unexpected income, the fear, the exhilaration, the errors, the passion, the power, the limitless successes, the risk of falling, the support system, and leading with your heart…

…pull up a seat, you’re in the right room. These are your people. Your Peer Group.
